no sarcasm or joking today

As the mother of a kindergartener and high schooler, I can't honestly say I don't know if I'm more frightened or angry.

Yes, the shooting in newton, Connecticut.

Children. Small children.

Why?

It's just disgusting.

I don't want to hear anything about mental health problems. Anyone (sick or not) would not murder those kids.

#29 will miss about florida

you know those things you never realized you'd miss... but do.

i never thought i'd miss, of all things, the movie theaters there. i lived very near disneyworld/epcot/etc etc. like close enough to watch the fireworks every night close. so, everything was nice for the tourists.
the theaters around here are smaller, the typical movie snack and the chairs are no where near as plush.
i would see movies at downtown disney or universal studios citywalk there. the chairs either rocked or reclined, amazing sound systems (hey, it was disney).

i find myself not going as often as i did. but, i also work a lot.

This isn't something I thought I'd find outside Lexington ky.

things i've learned of lexington

50 degrees (f) is not freezing cold. You just need a hoodie.  They don't have the horrible humidity here. Less water here.

accents

I'm a Northerner who went to Florida for awhile. And somehow ended up in Kentucky. only part of the week.
So, even though this is a large town, I still stick out with the way I tawk dude. yeah, north jersey meets the surf.
Whenever I hear people say words like y'all...... shiver.
Today, I learned another word that sticks out. Sprite. Yeah, the soda. But, around here it's more pronounced spraahite. i tend to giggle. Of course, they probably laugh when I say tomata or water (my sons tease that there isn't a d in water).

blogger goof?

I've recently noticed that my visitor counter is way off. I'm getting more traffic than it says. Also, it's pooling the blogs together. Just odd.
Is this just mine?

ever notice

That most detergent commercials have women doing the wash? Single and married men do wash clothing too. At least, most of the men I've met.

touch screen

years ago, my work had touch screen wifi tablets. only my specific team used them. they weren't this super thin, super lightweight tablets you see nowadays. more the size of a netbook. we hated them. when you could actually pick up the wifi was great.
so, when all this touch screen tablet/phone deal started, i was so against it. figured my crackberry was good enough.
then, got a android with slide keyboard.
then, android with touch screen keyboard.
also, android tablet.

wow, have things changed.

lugging a laptop. pshew! not having an android phone with everything. wtf!

oh, how times change.
my first cell phone was basically a brick that made scratchy calls.

florida vs kentucky

it's quite amusing how it will be 85-90 here and people can't function. here it's nice most of the day. then around 4-5pm, it gets hot and only stays that way for a short time. in Florida, it starts out hot and stays that way all day.
i'll take the short and sweet. though a nearby beach would be nice.

hot here isn't hot

i recently learned that in Lexington, 80 is considered "too hot" to do anything. that's spring in Florida.

ever notice

I'm tall. and of the female breed. and thin. and like most people, i don't like short pants/high waters/whatever you want to call them.
the problem......
to clothing companies (well most) 5'6" is considered a tall woman.
1. that is not tall. i know a large amount of women over 5'10".
2. wouldn't the companies know this as their models are well over 5'6".

things I've learned in lexington

#26 won't miss

for those of you thinking of moving to a more tropical climate, think of this........

i won't miss year-round yardwork. i'm not talking little things. in january, you still have to do the whole deal: mow, edge, rake, cutting bushes, etc.

it's a no rest for the weary.
